    • BIOGRAPHY
He was only a minor when, about 1332 or 1333, he married Lady Margaret Courtenay. He served in several French expeditions between 1359 and 1376. In 1370 he was made a Banneret, while twice he was appointed to mediate with the French and once with the Flemings.

In 1386 he was one of the 14 Commissioners who formed a Council of Regency, and was one of the Lords appointed to examine into the state of the king's court. In 1388 he was one of the Lords Apellant who impeached de La Pole, de Vere and others, the King's favourites. He sat as a member of the Court of Chivalry, both in 1389 and 1392.

Impeached in January 1398 at Shrewsbury for his part in the Commission of 1388, he was condemned to be hanged but pardoned on condition of banishment to Jersey. From there he returned within two years at the accession of Henry IV.

His wife died 2 August 1385 and was buried at Cobham. He himself died at an advanced age, about seventy-four years after his marriage, on 10 January 1408 and was buried at the Grey Friars in London.
