- 1935 Teilnehmer am Olympischen Trainingslager "nur fuer Juden", in Deutschland damals organisiert, um das Land als tolerant und weltoffen zu praesentieren. 1936 wurden dennoch keine juedischen Sportler in der Olympiamannschaft integriert.
"Gerhard Neubeck, then a teenager, was a candidate for that 1936 German team, too. Adolf Hitler, under pressure from some U.S. sports officials, conducted a Jewish-only Olympic training camp. Neubeck was a regional champ in the 1,500- and 3,000-meters."
Während der Kristallnacht 1938 wurden Gerhard und sein Vater brutal verpruegelt und ihr Heim zerstoert. Zusammen mit Mutter Emmy flohen sie alsbald in die Niederlande. Am 21.01.1940 emigrierten sie mit "SS Westerland" nach USA, wo sie zunaechst in Brooklyn lebten.
